Generally, that's enough to calm anyone who assumes we have not thought out our decision as well as they have in the 10 seconds since they heard that we homeschool.

In a previous article I wrote concerning the nature, order, and power of a true testimony. A testimony is an account given by a witness who has firsthand knowledge, and whose testimony is made true through sure evidence. As the world classifies and substantiates various forms of evidence, the Holy Ghost is the sure witness of a true and eternal testimony. It is through the evidence of the Holy Ghost that knowledge becomes truth. Once truth is established, there is a fundamental process through which the possessor of truth will follow.

We have a tendency to compartmentalize our lives…labeling various things as religious or secular, but in reality there is no such distinction.  Brigham Young said on this topic, “In a public meeting of the saints, I said, ‘Ye Elders of Israel,…will some of you draw the line of demarcation, between the spiritual and temporal in the kingdom of God, so that I may understand it?’  Not one of them could do it…  Temporal and spiritual things are inseparably connected, and ever will be.”

I sit on the fence as to whether I should vote for you or for a third party candidate. Up to this point, your strategy has been to show how your plan is better than Obama’s. I could show you that smoking tobacco is healthier than smoking crack—but that wouldn’t convince you to support smoking tobacco, because smoking tobacco is still bad. In order to win my vote, you’ll have to do more than simply show me you are not as bad as Obama: you’ll have to show me that you’re a good option.

As I sat listening to a talk in our Ward's recent Mother's day Sacrament meeting, I was presented with a major jolt to my pride that took me back a bit.  You see, I have spent years researching and reading works on free-market economics, the philosophy of liberty and related scriptures.  As a result have amassed a nice little mental library of understanding, about which I was probably feeling a lot more proud than I should.  Don't get me wrong, I value every understanding I have reached in this way and would not trade them for any source of artificial comfort or complacency that may be possible in the absence thereof.  But during this process I have examined most recently the question of how to accomplish liberty as a lasting societal condition, and have concluded that ultimately the answer lies in applying the core principle of agency in our homes and with how we raise our children.

Do we need to understand how money works?  I’m not talking about the laws of personal finance and thrift.  I’m talking about our system of money and systems of money in general.  The common attitude seems to be indifference and ignorance.  I’ve always been astounded by this since so much of our daily routine is wrapped up in issues about working, providing for ourselves and others; and the almost universal desire to prosper and achieve a certain standard of living.

Bennett resigned his position as Mayor (and was excommunicated from the Church). At a city council meeting two days later, the prophet Joseph Smith was overwhelmingly elected by the council to replace Bennett.

It is harder now than in times past to eat from the land.  It is possible, however, to grow your own herbs and find the ones, with the Lord’s help, that you think would be most useful for your family and will help to prepare for famine, sickness, and pregnancy.  Does not everything the Lord created have purpose?  So then, each herb has a specific purpose.
